The qualifying conditions can be found in the bill, under the definition of “qualifying conditions” in Section 2. They are as follows:
- Cancer
- Parkinson’s disease
- Huntington’s disease
- Muscular dystrophy
- Glaucoma
- Spastic Quadriplegia
- Positive status for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
- Acquired Immune Deficiency syndrome (AIDS)
- Hepatitis
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
- Crohn’s disease
- Ulcerative colitis
- Sickle-cell anemia
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Agitation of dementia
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Autism
- Pain refractory to appropriate opioid management
- Diabetic peripheral neuropathy
- Spinal cord disease or severe injury
Also, qualifying is a chronic terminal or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces one or more of the following:
- cachexia or wasting syndrome
- chronic pain
- severe or intractable nausea
- seizures
- severe and persistent muscle spasms including, but not limited to, that characteristic of multiple sclerosis
- Or any other serious medical condition or its treatment added by the Mississippi Department of Health, as provided for in Section 9 of this act.

See your medical doctor, nurse practitioner, or optometrist and get certified. First, schedule an appointment with your doctor. (Note: Any healthcare provider must be certified by the State of Mississippi to prescribe medical marijuana.) If your provider is not authorized, you will need to find one that is.
The Department of Health will issue the patient a card. Once you have gotten a prescription from your doctor, go to the MDOR website and create a patient portal for yourself. Then, submit your Medical Marijuana prescription to the state, and submit your application to participate in the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Program. You should receive your ID card within 60 days of your provider completing his certification from the state. (Note: Certification is not a prescription.)
You will receive an electronic identification card for a specific period or a maximum of 1 year.
Finally, you can now select a licensed dispensary to purchase medical marijuana.
Medical doctors, optometrists, and nurse practitioners have taken the additional credits to issue medical marijuana certifications. You can find a list of all certified medical practitioners, doctors, and nurse practitioners online at WebMD.
The fee for a patient card will be $25. (Note: All fees for patients and caregivers are outlined in Section 21 of SB2095.)
